This is a 45-minute wellbeing class provided by Jon on Zoom. Jon is a massage therapist and has a background in movement and has worked with a variety of people from every walk of life.

The pandemic has impacted us all in many ways, whether that be working online more, increased isolation or a change in our usual routines. If you’re looking for some simple tools to re-tune your body, follow the link below to register and find out more. This session will focus on the theme of relaxation. Julie Atkins is a Project Lead for Care City, a community interest company based in Barking focussed on healthy ageing through innovation and she is undertaking a project about getting older and frailty. Julie will speak to us to get our help and thoughts about the following questions:

How do you feel about getting older?

What support do you think you may need?

What health services do you access?

And what do you think about how we label our older generation?

What does “vulnerable” mean?

When would you describe someone as “frail”?

Julie and her team have put together a short, three-part discussion, taking no longer than 45 minutes and have tested it with some older people, who have been engaged and found it fun, whilst she has listened and learned a lot about their ‘understanding of frailty’.

Julie would really like to talk to us to capture our thoughts and build a picture of what the health system can do and how we can help influence it, to help people stay independent and healthier for longer.

Did you know there are ways to minimise chances of losing data on your computer? Are you wondering why your computer is so slow? But you don't want to spend thousands of ££££ on a new one? We have a solution. A regular health check will avoid nasty problems later on.Here is a typical case study.

A member came to seek help from our IT section as he was having difficulty accessing the information from his laptop. After a close inspection, our IT expert found over 200 errors on the data storage making it very difficult or impossible to access data from those files. This kind of problem can take days to resolve even if the information can be recovered. At the end, our professional computer expert successfully recovered the data for this member.

A visit to our 'Computer Clinic' on a Saturday morning between 11 and 2 pm for a Health Check would have reduced chances of this happening, and reduced time spent on rescuing important data. A donation of £30 was made for the health check and an additional £60 for data recovery. A comparison of high street stores revealed costs of £60 for a Health check and £90 for data recovery.

Our Charity has been nominated for the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in the current round that ends with an announcement on June 4th 2020. This does not mean we have the award but have to go through an assessment process. We shall hear whether we have been awarded the QAVS in May 2020. There are 28 other groups who have been nominated in the area.

This prestigious award, known as the ‘MBE for voluntary groups’, is only given after a detailed nomination form has been submitted, which has been done and accepted as 'eligible.' We now have to go through the assessment process.

Avril McIntyre MBE DL will take us through the assessment process which will be on FRIDAY 29th November from 11.30 am to 2.30 approximately, at The Cranbrook Centre, Valentines Park, Melbourne Road, Ilford, IG1 4SB

Avril wants to meet as many people as possible who are or were involved with the charity and anyone who has benefited from its work.

Our assessor - Avril McIntyre MBE DL is the Queen's representative for Barking and Dagenham. She will also contact for information and comments on our activities, other sources such as the Representative Deputy Lieutenant for our borough, community leaders, local authorities, health providers and the Police.

We cannot be assessed by our own DL as the process must be impartial. You all know our Queen's representative in Redbridge from our AGM this year; Thomas Chan DL who attended with his wife Sim.

Avril McIntyre's work results in an assessment report to her Committee, sitting ‘in college’ in early January 2020, from where she advises the Lord-Lieutenant. He decides which groups are to go forward as ‘Recommended’ to the main QAVS Committee, and its specialist sub-committees for their examination of the evidence and final decisions. The content of the Lord-Lieutenant’s assessment report and his recommendations are private and confidential, and, after his assessment, we will only hear whether we have been awarded the QAVS, or not, after the whole process is completed in May 2020.

From the above, you will see how seriously the process of assessing and selecting those who are to be awarded QAVS is taken and how much it is to be valued.

We hope you will support us on Friday 29th for this important event in our Charity.

Refreshments will be provided as usual.

the Museum of London will be coming to the Cranbrook Centre, Valentines Park, Melbourne Road, Ilford, IG1 4SB to conduct a workshop called the 'Story of London'.

We know this will be a fascinating experience where you will have an opportunity to experience the feel and smell of the stories we shall be told from original exhibits at the museum.

This is always a fun event with lots of home made refreshments and interesting contributions from different charities and wild life societies.

You are most welcome to join us. We shall be selling some of the things we made at the craft sessions to raise money for the charity.

A selection of cushions made at our Arts and Crafts sessions on Tuesdays.

Members have made jewellery cases, aprons and reusable bags all to sell on our stall at St. Peter’s Flower Festival, Aldborough Road North, Aldborough Hatch, Ilford, Essex IG2 7QN. We always welcome more people to come along to our Arts & Crafts sessions on Tuesdays at the Centre.

This will be the 39th Flower Festival as a celebration of the Saint’s day. The church windows will each be decorated with different displays based on the theme ‘Annual Celebrations'.

The craft fair is on Saturday and Sunday, 22nd and 23rd June 2019. Food and other entertainment is always a part of the programme.

Our charity will be dressing the Lych Gate in flowers with the theme of Diwali (Festival of Light).

Today at the Centre, we will be hosting a Story of London workshop, in partnership with the Museum of London, Docklands. This is sure to be an in-depth and fascinating look at our capital city. Come along and find out things you didn't know about the metropolis.

Fancy trying something new and creative? Our friend Alex from the Iroko Theatre company is introducing a new class featuring bare hand clay modelling. Above are some examples of works created at previous workshops. Admission is free, and refreshments will be provided. Self-drying clay will be provided, and the facilitator will usually demonstrate and teach techniques of bare hand clay modelling. Participants are then given a piece of clay each and are encouraged to be creative by producing any object of their own fancy.

Don't forget we are hosting Alex and his group from the Iroko Theatre on Friday 10th May at the Cranbrook Centre. Here is your opportunity to learn how to play the drums.

Session begins promptly at 11.30 am with a break for refreshments provided by the Iroko theatre group. The session concludes at 1.30 pm.

All of those who attended Alex's session last year found it most enjoyable, lifted the spirits and made them feel young again!
